Keeping Simplicity In A Busy Life
Hello everyone! First, I just want to apologize for the huge lack of blog posts lately. One post in the past two months…… Wow. Yeah I know that’s pretty bad. Seriously, I feel like a major blogger FAIL in the past few weeks. No, I’m not planning on stopping the blog anytime soon, I’m just doing pretty bad at it right now…. Your patience is greatly appreciated! *smiles* I just got out of my “blogging schedule” this summer with camp and everything else that has been going on, and it’s been really, really, REALLY, hard to get back on track when it comes to my blogging. Why? Well, there’s quite a few reasons. Honestly, one of the biggest reasons is simply, my blog isn’t my number one priority. And it’s not second or third priority either. Yes, maybe I should have blogging much higher on my to-do list, but right now in this time of life, it’s just not. And I’m ok with that. Life is short and life is busy. Spending time with family, everyday work, church and ministry work, keeping my grades up, etc. there’s just so much in life right now that seems so much more important than publishing a few blog posts every single week. So when thinking of blog post ideas, one of the first things to come to mind was dealing with busy lives. I’m sure almost all (actually probably ALL) of you faithful readers have crazy busy lives in one way or another, so it’s a pretty relatable topic to talk about. Today I will be sharing a few little things that have been a great help in keeping simplicity in my busy life. (And I’m apologizing in advance for this slightly jumbled and quickly thrown together post……)
1. Quiet Time With God.
This one is so, so, so important in our daily lives; yet I would be the first to admit, life gets busy, our schedule gets tight, we are tired, and just like that, we forget about the most important part of our day. A quiet devotional time everyday is extremely necessary for keeping the rest of your day sweet and simple. Do your best to set aside a specific time of day that will be devoted to reading your bible, prayer, journaling, etc. For me, this time is best in the early morning. Which takes us to our next point.
2. Be A Morning Person.
Well this is definitely the one thing that I struggle with the most….. If you aren’t really a morning person, I can definitely relate! BUT I would have to say that I have never once regretted getting up early. It’s just one of those things that you often have to push yourself to do, because you know that it will most likely be rewarding in the long run. For me, the early morning hours are truly some of the best hours of the day. (Although I usually have a pretty hard time remembering that in the early mornings after a long day and late night…..) There’s just something so special about the early morning fog, the birds singing in the trees, the dew on the grass, and the cloudy skies as the sun starts to peek over the horizon.
3. Make Your Bed.
Can’t even stress how important this simple little task is to your day. Just take the 30 seconds to make your bed in the morning. It will make a difference in your life. It really will! This goes along with getting dressed in the morning. I’m sorry, but there’s not to many successful days filled with hard work when people are in their pajamas. It just doesn’t happen all that often. (Unless maybe you’re an author who sits and writes all day? I don’t know…… Maybe that would be an exception….. Yeah never mind, I’d actually still recommend getting dressed in the morning. 😉 )
4. Don’t Overthink Everything.
I’m not exactly sure why, maybe because I’m a girl, or an introvert that doesn’t talk to people very much (except for really close friends) or maybe it’s my oldest child perfectionist side that likes knowing what’s going on and having my plans made…… I’m really not sure, but it’s just a fact that I overthink things. Like a lot. A lot. Whether it was a mistake I made, something someone else did or said, wondering how I could have changed a circumstance, etc. There are just so many unknown things in life. So many questions that we don’t have answers to, and maybe never will! Don’t stress yourself out by overthinking every little thing. It doesn’t help. Not at all.
5. Keep A Smile On Your Face.
This one…. Wow. It sounds so relatively simple, yet so often, we will totally forget to do this simple little thing! I totally agree with the statement that a smile is a girl’s best accessory. Seriously, it’s so true! Your smile is a wonderful thing that has the ability to brighten your face, and even the lives around you! I don’t know about you, but there have been a lot of times in my life when I’ve just been having a rough day for one reason or another, when suddenly, someone will walk by me and smile, and something that simple can really totally turn the day around. There are so, so many things in this life to smile about! Never forget to count your blessings, no matter how busy you are.
6. Learn To Keep The Chaos In Order.
Yes that’s a major play on words, but it is an extremely important thing to learn! Life is busy. Life is crazy. Life is chaotic. That’s just a fact. (Unless you are somehow the one person on the face of the earth that just has an absolutely perfect and peaceful life in every way shape and form. Good for you! That’s pretty amazing *smiles* I’d appreciate some tips on how you manage that…..) Life is crazy, and yeah, there’s a pretty good chance that it’s just always going to be that way! Learn to keep a schedule. Learn to keep that schedule flexible because…… life happens. And that’s okay! Learn to manage your time well. Learn to work hard and give your best in everything that you do. It is possible to keep simplicity, even in a busy, sometimes chaotic life, but it takes hard work and effort just like everything else!
How do you keep your priorities straight when life gets busy? How do you keep the sweetness and simplicity in your life through the busy days? What are some things you would add to this list? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!
