Why Autumn Is The Greatest Season Ever

Soooooo in case you didn’t know this yet, or just wanted to hold onto “summer” until the literal first day of fall, (ugh. Please don’t do that. Just please accept the fact that fall is amazing.) FALL IS COMING!  And it’s coming FAST! And in case you couldn’t already tell, I am just a *little bit* excited about it……. Why? Well only for about a hundred million different reasons. There are so many different things to love about this season of the year. For me, some of my favorite things and feelings about this time of year would just seem impossible to put into words, but I will try my best.

How do you describe how you feel when you’re walking through the woods bundled up in a big sweater while a strong wind rips your hair out of your braid and swirls the leaves all around you? Well I have no idea how to describe it in words, but to me, I think that’s just about the best feeling. Ever.

  • Leaves. Wonderful, glorious, beautiful, colorful leaves. They float gracefully down from the trees. They crunch when you step on them. They cover everything in a blanket of beautiful autumn colors. The wind blows them about  like small tornados of color. Their burnt orange, maroon, yellow, and auburn colors quickly take the place of summers bright and beautiful flowers. In the words of Emily Bronte, “Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.”

Big warm sweaters and sweatshirts. There is just something so comforting about being wrapped up in an oversized warm fleece sweatshirt or sweater. It’s like being wrapped in a big warm blanket, except that it’s actually socially acceptable to wear a sweatshirt in public πŸ˜‰ So yeah, that’s pretty amazing!

Baking, baking, and more baking. It’s a pretty well known fact that I love cooking and baking and I bake like seriously all. of. the. time. BUT, when fall is coming and the weather starts getting cooler……… Yeah, if you can’t find me, there’s a pretty good chance that I’m in a kitchen somewhere, baking like a crazy person an amazing person. And it’s wonderful. The smells, the tastes, the calories….. Oh actually, never mind about that calorie part…. Ha well at least everything usually tastes pretty amazing.

Candles and lamplight. I may be just *slightly* obsessed with candles and oil lamps….. Especially in these cooler months when the sun is setting earlier. There’s just something so peaceful, simple, and calming about a little flame shining light and spreading shadows across the room. (Although you do have to be extremely careful when it comes to this one….. I know someone who burnt their entire house down with a candle. Not to scare you or anything πŸ˜‰ )

Sewing & crafting projects. I don’t know about you, but my summers are usually crazy busy. So, that usually leaves practically no room for extra projects and the “finer, ladylike arts” like sewing, crocheting, knitting, and quilting. As the fall months start to come, it’s a time for life to (hopefully) start slowing down a bit. It’s time to pick up all of those half finished, (or maybe never even started) projects and spend some time FINISHING them! And that’s a wonderful thing.

Long walks. Taking long walks and hikes is actually one my favorite pastimes. And hiking always seems a whole lot more amazing during the cooler fall months when a cool breeze is blowing, leaves coat the ground, and you can watch firsthand the beauty of God’s creation and the changing seasons. Whether it’s down a gravel country road, through the woods, down a quiet back road, or no matter where you are, long walks always seem like such a great reminder to just take a step back from everyday life and slow down a little bit.

Life is busy, but we don’t always have to be rushing around like crazy people! Take a break. Take a breath of that crisp fall air. Take another deep breath. And then another. (Actually just keep breathing, I don’t want you dying on me πŸ˜‰ ) Every breath we have is an amazing gift from God. Life is wonderful. And be sure you don’t forget that. Don’t just stumble through life looking down at the ground. God has plans for your life! Follow Him and His will for your life and live an amazing life, all year long. Not just this season, not just the next, but your entire life! He has amazing plans for you and your life! Maybe they aren’t exactly crystal clear right now, or maybe you really don’t even have the faintest idea of what he wants you to do next, but just keep following Him. He will make the path clear in HIS timing. He has given us this fall season to enjoy, but mostly to bring honor and glory to Him through the way we are living our lives. Have a wonderful autumn, everyone!

Simply,

Wow, I didn’t even get to some of my favorite parts of this fall season…… Well I guess you’ll just have to stay tuned for a part 2!
